When I was in high school and college, I was obsessed with notebooks, pens, pencils, post-it and everything else in the same department really. One thing you might not know about Japan is that they have AMAZING stationery stores. You will find there the most amazing erasers and sticky notes.
Since I have been studying quite intensely Japanese lately (my youngest started kindergarten once a week so I have four hours of uninterrupted study time), I have concluded I likely needed sticky notes to help with my note taking.
Oh! But what a mistake that was…
…to adventure into Ube’s largest stationery store. And after seeing so many beautiful things, I figured I could stop by Daiso on my way back to see if they also had interesting items in their stationery department.
Here’s my loot for this month
I just love cute Japanese erasers. I bought some for the kids but I kept the Japanese food for me.
For sticky notes, my favorite pad actually comes in a tiny orange (Mikan) box. I will put these sticky notes in the kitchen to use.
I also have sticky memo notes for studying (the only thing I was supposed to buy really) : cats, dogs and Mount Fuji!
I also bought some funny note books. One is confusingly written in both French and English and one is way too into juice.
If you are looking for a nice gift for your favorite student during your trip to Japan, please take the time to visit your nearest stationery store. Here’s a good link for great spots in Tokyo.
Aside from what I showed you above, they also have a large selection of pens, pencils and markers for artists. You can also find there stylish messenger bags and pencil cases. If you are yourself a student or an artist, it is definitely a stop you need to make. You might want to put aside a budget since the nicest items are quite expensive.
Without coming to Japan, you will be happy to find out that many vendors on eBay carry items from Japanese stationery stores.
If you are looking for something specific, feel free to contact me and I will see if I can help!
Have a great day!
